June 1, 2007 (Fairfax, Virginia) | Sharon D. Nelson, Esq. and John W. Simek, corporate officers of Sensei Enterprises, a Fairfax, Virginia-based computer forensics and technology firm, have joined other Northern Virginia Bar leaders to assist the Just the Beginning Foundation (JTBF) — an organization dedicated to achieving diversity in the legal profession — with its 2008 conference planning efforts.
Ms. Nelson, Sensei’s President, noted good-naturedly, “When Judge Gerald Bruce Lee issues a personal invitation to join the JRBF 2008 conference planning board, it is something of a mandate! Nonetheless, we were happy to received the invitation because John and I have belief in the importance of making a difference in our community and this is certainly a worthy cause. It is really important that we develop and nurture interest in the law among racially and ethnically under-represented young people and support their continued advancement and integration into the legal profession. We are especially excited at the idea that we might contribute by recording podcasts of the extraordinary stories of some of the pioneering minority judges who will be present at the conference. These judges are a shining light to young minority students and recording their memories is an important historical contribution to the law.”
The JTBF 2008 conference committee is formally being recognized as the Consortium of Federal and Local Bar Associations of Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia and will handle specific committee tasks related to the upcoming conference. For more information, please visit the JTBF website at www.jtbf.org or contact Ms. Ornetta Slaughter (703) 299-2190 or email Ornetta_Slaughter@vaed.uscourts.gov.
ABOUT JUST THE BEGINNING FOUNDATION
The Just the Beginning Foundation (JTBF) grew out of a weekend celebration in September 1992 which celebrated the integration of the federal judiciary and to honor Judge James Parsons, the first African-American United States District Court Judge, who was retiring after 31 years of service on the federal bench. Inspired by the events of that weekend, JTBF was founded as a not-for-profit organization of judges, lawyers, and citizens dedicated to improving the legal system in the United States and preserving and honoring the legacy of African-Americans in the federal judiciary.
