On July 28th, Law.com posted an article entitled “When You Don't Need an Army: EDD for Everyday Lawsuits.” Sensei President, Sharon D. Nelson, was quoted in the article saying, “Assuming attorneys are working with active data only and that they give us accurate criteria (which often doesn't happen), we can use Nuix to do the pre-processing of the data using file types, custodians, search terms, dates, hash values, de-Nisting, de-duping, etc. Cost to process 1.8 TB would be roughly $6,000. Bill to Exempt Computer Forensics from PI Licensing Signed into Law
On April 6, 2011, Virginia Governor McDonnell held a formal ceremony signing House Bill HB 2771 into law. The bill exempts digital forensics from the state private investigator licensing laws. The ceremony was attended by the bill’s sponsor, Del. Mark Keam and Sensei principals Sharon Nelson, John Simek and Mike Maschke. You can read the full text of the bill here.

Bill to Exempt Computer Forensics Passes Virginia Senate
On February 21st, a bill sponsored by Delegate Mark Keam at the request of Sensei's principals passed the Virginia Senate having previously been passed by the House. The bill exempts from regulation as a private security service business any individual engaged in (i) computer or digital forensic services or in the acquisition, review, or analysis of digital or computer-based information, whether for purposes of obtaining or furnishing information for evidentiary or other purposes or for providing expert testimony before a court, or (ii) network or system vulnerability testing, including network scans and risk assessment and analysis of computers connected to a network.
