Sensei Enterprises, Inc. was founded in 1997 by Sharon D. Nelson, Esq., a practicing attorney, and John W. Simek, a highly certified technologist. By combining their knowledge of technology and the law, Sensei has successfully filled a niche market in legal technology and computer forensics.


Corporate Officers

SharonSharon D. Nelson, Esq., is the President of Sensei Enterprises, Inc. Ms. Nelson graduated from Georgetown University Law Center in 1978 and has been in private practice ever since. Her primary practice areas include technology and Internet law.

Ms. Nelson and Mr. Simek are also the co-editors of the Internet newsletter "Bytes in Brief."® Ms. Nelson and Mr. Simek are co-authors of The Electronic Evidence and Discovery Handbook: Forms, Checklists and Guidelines (American Bar Association, 2006) and Information Security for Lawyers and Law Firms (American Bar Association, 2006). Their articles have appeared in prestigious publications throughout the country.

Ms. Nelson is the past President of the Fairfax Bar Association, a Director of the Fairfax Law Foundation, and past chair of the American Bar Association’s TECHSHOW Board. She currently serves on the Governing Council of the ABA's Law Practice Management Section and as a Vice Chair of its Publications Board. She is a member of ARMA's E-Discovery Advisory Board and a member of the ABA's Advisory Panel. She is also a graduate of Leadership Fairfax and serves on the Virginia State Bar Mandatory Continuing Legal Education Board and the Virginia State Bar Special Committee on Law and Technology, and as the Chairman of its Court Technology Subcommittee. She is a member of the American Bar Association, the Virginia Bar, the Virginia Bar Association and the Fairfax Bar Association.

JohnJohn W. Simek is the Vice President of Sensei Enterprises, Inc. He is an EnCase Certified forensic technologist (EnCE).

Mr. Simek holds a degree in engineering from the United States Merchant Marine Academy and an MBA in finance from Saint Joseph’s University. After forming Sensei, he ended his 20+ year affiliation with Mobil Oil Corporation, where he served as a senior technologist troubleshooting Mobil’s networks throughout the western hemisphere. Mr. Simek has in-depth experience with network troubleshooting, hardware and software implementations, systems integration, and logistical and financial expertise in a wide range of computer engineering designs and solutions. He has an extensive knowledge of multi-protocol environments and a diverse range of networking technologies. 

In addition to his EnCase Certification (EnCE), Mr. Simek is a Certified Handheld Examiner, Certified Novell Engineer, Microsoft Certified Professional + Internet, Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, NT Certified Independent Professional and a Certified Internetwork Professional. He is also a member of the High Tech Crime Network and of the International Information Systems Forensics Association as well as the American Bar Association. Michael Maschke

Michael Maschke is the Director of Information Technology and a computer forensics examiner at Sensei Enterprises, Inc. He is an EnCase Certified forensic technologist (EnCE).

Mr. Maschke holds a degree in Telecommunications from James Madison University and is currently pursuing a master's degree in Information Security from James Madison University. Mr. Maschke has significant experience with network troubleshooting, design and implementation, systems integration and computer engineering. He currently oversees Sensei’s Information Technology department, which provides support to over 175 area law firms, legal entities and corporations.

Mr. Maschke is a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, Microsoft Certified Professional and a Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator.  He has spoken at the American Bar Association’s TECHSHOW conference on information security and is a co-author of Information Security for Lawyers and Law Firms, a book published by the American Bar Association in 2006. Daniel R. Fuller

Daniel R. Fuller is a computer forensics examiner at Sensei Enterprises, Inc.

Mr. Fuller holds a degree in Computer Science with a minor in Digital Forensics from the University of Rhode Island. He is a Certified Computer Examiner (#735) and is currently pursuing his EnCase certification.

Reid F. Trautz

Reid F. Trautz is a lawyer with over 20 years of experience in practice and as advisor to law firms on the business of practicing law. He has advised hundreds of lawyers and law firms to improve their profitability, innovate their service, build their reputation, resolve internal disputes, and exceed the expectations of their clients.
